Feeling so ill :(
Hey,
I've been really poorly now for a week and a half. I feel constantly sick from morning til night, really dizzy, even when i'm stood still it feels like everything is moving, been getting bad headaches and just feel generally very tired and lousy! I've been to the doctors who suspected vertigo but had a load of blood tests done to rule other things out. Just wondered if any of you had ever suffered with vertigo? I've been told it can last months and other than anti sickness pills there is no treatment. I was meant to sign off but I can't afford to, plus means letting the parents down. Some days I just feel like crying coz i feel so ill, its horrible. Am very miserable at the moment
xx

Re: Feeling so ill :(
Oh dear,
I am sorry to hear that you are feeling so poorly, i don't know much about vertigo other than what you have just told me, are you on the anti sickness pills?.
Is there any way you could just reduce your hours for a week or two, or just have a week off to get some rest.
Hope you are feeling better soon

Re: Feeling so ill :(
hi i know its not much but you can get sick pay from the goverment if you need to take time off, that might make it a bit easier???
Its not great being ill in this job i have been in the same boat recently i have been having probs and best option is a hysterectomy but cant afford to have 6 weeks off work!!! Even when you dont count in the money issue like you say its hard to let parents down. mine should be understandable as i have never had a day off sick in 5 yrs!! but if i had 6 weeks off i would assume they would go elsewhere!!
Try not to get down too much , maybe you could try talk to parents and sort out some early finishes. Or if you know any childminders well in your area maybe they could come give you a hand for a bit, i have done that in the past. It can work out quite good so long as you have suficient space as they would obviously need to bring thier mindees just makes it that bit easier having two pairs of hands for a few hours.I have also had other minders come to hospital appointments with me before when i know i wont be long ,to sit in the waiting room with the kids so i dont have to book a full day off for half hour appointment. I have had 7 appointments since november i dont think they would be so happy about me booking time off for them all. I also had a small procedure done at the day unit 2 days before xmas, dropped my mindees at my emergency carers and then returned to finish my day 2hrs later!!! If you are open with parents they can be quite understandable (although i did only say i had an appointment and didnt say what for! lol) As long as they know their kids are well looked after most parents are ok.
Also if you have kids of your own to take to school and no others you could ask a minder to take them for a bit i have done this also and if they live close enough they pick up on way to school and only charge me a couple of pounds for dropping them at school I have also done this in return for them.
Hope your feeloing better soon.

Re: Feeling so ill :(
I had to have 8 weeks off last year as i had an emergency operation, the parents were very understanding and did come back, another cm covered for me for the 8 weeks as she did not have any mindees at the time. The parents would not think anything of taking time off if they were ill so i would hope they would be more understanding. i know some arent though

Re: Feeling so ill :(
No i dont really pick up things from the kids ( although shouldnt have said that as will now!!! LOl!)
I have had a really bad cold once off them but we all had at the same time so we just muddled through and once i did get a tummy but but didnt feel unwell till the fri around 10 mins before pick up was sick that night then had sat and sun to recover so was right as rain for mon but it did ruin my weekend!!
If my own kids are sick (which is hardly ever)i dont have to have time off then either as we had a playroom put on and a kitchen exension so my kids get banished to the living room and conservatory while i work, hubby is home early most of the time as starts really early& i get another minder to cover school runs. my kids are old enough that they dont need me sat with them all the time wouldnt be easy if they were younger.
The only thing i do get is TIRED! but not much i can do about that !!!
I will prob catch the worst tummy bug ever now lol!!!!
