Homeschooling your own children?

Post  babybunting on Wed Mar 10, 2010 1:43 pm

Does anyone here know anything about homeschooling your child, mine has not got into any of the local schools in sept and have allocated us a place miles away, we are appealing but if we do take the place offered i will not be able to childmind any more as i don't drice and will spend hours every day on a bus, i thought i would home school until he gets into local school he is 3rd on the waiting list and i really don't want to send him to the other one.

That;s what happens when you buy a new house in a new area, not enough places at the schools

Hi, sorry i don't know anything about homeschooling, i'm in a similar situation my son has not gotten into any of the local schools either, i'm furious about it, there are 3 local schools in our area and the one he already attends nursery at it just a 2 minute walk from my home and i can hear all the kids in the playground as well, thats how close we are. The area i live in has been around for 7 years and there are still not enough places at the schools and we've been told that the council have offered the schools money to expand but they can't as they don't have enough land.
TBH my son would not get on with home schooling as he has so much energy and loves being around loads of people so i will no choice but to appeal the decision and hope that he gets in soon or i'm going to have to spend 2 hours a day on busses. I know how you must feel as i am in the same boat Evil or Very Mad

Homeschooling

Post  joanne.jeffery@yahoo.co.u on Wed Apr 21, 2010 6:30 pm

Hi,
I am a member of education otherwise and have considered home educating my 3 girls. The only thing holding us back is the opportunities that school provides that I would not be able to provide myself, but having said that there is a huge he movement and it does allow for incredible flexibility in education. I would really consider it in your position. check out the education otherwise site and go talk to some heers.
Good luck, Jo.

I am home-educating my 5 year old daughter

Post  Little Blossoms on Sun Apr 25, 2010 8:24 am

Hi,

we chose to home ed last september when my daughter would have started school, for various reasons. if you are home edding until you get a school place, I suggest that you go and talk to the head at the school, explain that you want to wait for a place and ask for some support, materials, ideas etc to use at home, then you know that you are in-line with what the school are doing.

I want to home ed for a few years at least so have taken my own path with reading and maths, and we do so much through being out and about at the park, in the garden, reading etc. You don't have to inform anyone if you have never sent her to school, but your local authority should have a home ed 'person' who can visit you and tell you about other avenues of support, some offer free ice-skating, extended library cards, allsorts!

Good luck, Jenni
