My son bit a mindee 2nd time in a week!!!!
God i feel absolutely awful and on the brink of giving childminding up, i look after a mindee and for the past 5 weeks or so had constantly been scratching my sons face, it's been non stop when i mean stratch i mean deep pinching bleading scratches, last week she scratched him and in retaliation he bit her really hard marking her. i had to fill in forms tell the parents it was awful.
Well today they were playing nicely when all of a sudden she took his toy from him and as quick as a flash he bit her!!!!, it was so quick i did not have a chance of stopping him.
So ive filled the forms in again, had to explain what happened again and i feel absolutely awful, my son has been punished for this but he was last time and now i am at my wits end feeling like i am going to have a nervous breakdown if he does it again.
Hellllllllppppppp what would you do as i am seriously considering packing childminding in for good

Re: My son bit a mindee 2nd time in a week!!!!
I am going through a similar situation at the moment and am at the end of my tether. My son has days when he is so vile to the other children, even tells them he hates them in front of their parents! I have days where i just feel like giving it up, i feel like it at the moment. My son finds my job so hard, and gets so jealous, feel like I'm just making him v unhappy
Are the parents of your mindee understanding about it? xx

Hi,
if you have a biting policy then this should apply to all children inc your own. Mine explains what i will do in these situation and how i will handle it in regards to the children, it also explains various reasons why children may bite i.e frustration, anger and such , it asks all parents to be understanding as just because their child is not biting at the moment doesnt mean they never will. Biting is a phase most children go through and although its not nice for anyone children or parents, it doesnt last forever, this week its your child next week it could be theirs so they do need to be understanding. I totally understand why you feel the way you do though as you are looking after someone elses child but it,s not your fault and their isnt much you can do at the moment except look out for what might be a trigger and try to get in there first to prevent it although this will be hard. You also need to make parents aware that their child was also involved in incidents of scratching so they dont feel that it is all your child and try to lay blame as this will not help anyone. keep your chin up and try not to get too down about it as that will make your job alot harder. You do not have to tell them it was your child as if it was another mindee that did it you wouldnt be allowed to tell them who it was so whats the difference if its your child. You can always try to keep the name of the biter confidential regardless of who it is however this is hard if only two are together in a particular day.

Re: My son bit a mindee 2nd time in a week!!!!
Hi, My daughter went through a stage of biting. Think it was a attention seeking behaviour, I set aside 30mins each day where possible to do something with her. I have since back tracked, but she's not biting anymore, just incredibly whiney and needy at times. Maybe I should go back to 30 mins mummy time each day. I also used naughty step, I'm not a soft touch. She only did it about 3-4 times in all and I was really ashamed of her and I made that clear to the parent and the other children in my care, maybe that's what did it!
Don't give it up because of this biting thing, just make it clear to all involved that it is not acceptable behaviour.
Good luck, Jo.
