I filled in an accident form obviously and also an incident form for the child that did it. When i told the parent who's child had the bump she wasnt very impressed as you can imagine, but worse because I follow nursery policy and mention no names she may well have gone thinking it was my son who did it, which it wasnt.
Foundation Degree???

I am just wondering if there are any childminders out there who have signed up for the graduate leader programme to do the foundation degree in early years and can tell me what they have done with it after graduating?

I am considering it at the moment but am unsure of what door it could open for me as my only experience of working with children is as a childminder and I dont really need a degree to do that as I am already doing it.

Any views or expereinces welcomed

Hey guys how are you all?

When a child leaves your setting for school or nursery do you give the parents things like their deveolpment records? And any observations? Or do we keep hold of them? I know pre-schools pass on their profile records for school. Do any of you use the profiles and if so where did you get it from?

From Sept I am a very busy bee and will be doing over 50 hrs a week, eeeek

Hi,

I haven't been on hear for ages & for that I apologise. I have just spoken to someone that has really confused me. When Ofsted did my visit they said that I could have 6 children but they would deduct 2 for my children leaving 4 spaces available. After having spoken to this person they said that the 4 places were for my 2 children + 2 mindees

Can anyone please advise me if I am right?

Any advice on how to deal with Chicken Poxs? My 3 year old daughter has suspected chicken pox...errrrrrrr she has a few spots on her back and face and it looks like the dreaded pox, what do I do? Also one of the children I look after has red spots over her back and tummy, doctor says it might be pox... we don't have confirmation, but i think it is. Do I close down or isolate my daughter and keep open? all advice gratefully recieved.Ofsted registered childminder in Islington

Hey.

My son is due to start school in sept so will obviously have a place available then as he will no longer count in my under 5s ratio, but to begin with I think they settle them in by doing mornings for a few weeks. I just wondered if i would need to apply for a variation so I can take on more children in sept for that few weeks where they may overlap? Im getting lots of calls for sept and dont want to tell them I cant start at beg of the new term because they will prob just go elsewhere. ...

I'm currently registered to care for 4 under 5. However one of my mindees (who was full time, but went part time as mum was on mat leave) now wants to increase back up to full time.

Trouble is i have taken on another child and on Mondays only & term time only my numbers will increase to 5 under 5 for just 2hrs and 30min. I really don't want to lose any of the children because of this, as they have been with me for quite a while and it would be so annoying due to such a short overlap. ...

Hiya,

I am currently trying to find an under 5 to fill a vacancy that I have from the end of May. I have had some interest, but for Mum's going back to work in September. If they want me to hold the place until then what retainer would you normally charge or would you take a non-refundable deposit instead?...I see the NCMA contracts suggest 50% retainer fee, is it reasonable to expect them to pay half for the next 3 months? I was wondering what other childminders do in this situation?

Hello!

I normally mind the under 5's but have been approached by a lovely lady who would like me to do after school care for her little boy, who will be starting school in September. She has asked if she would still have to pay me in the holidays if I don't have her son...which I was unsure of as she has also said that she may need me some days in the holidays.

I am thinking of telling her that as long as my normal pay is covered by the days that she requests then I wouldn't ask for her normal ...

Ive had some parents come over today, initially over the phone they said they would need me until 6:45 - 7:00 in the evenings and when they came over today they changed it and said they want it until 8pm.

My problem is this ... if i take this lovely little child on i will be working 13 hours a day, my son goes to bed at 7pm so i would not be able to bath him and put him to bed, and there is the possibility that he will get woken up at 8pm when the doorbell is rung.

Do any of you write a daily form for the children which goes home with them? Just looking for some ideas as been using the same one since i started and bit bored of it. I am rubbish at designing at my own so if any of you could send me a sample so I can see it I would be very greatful. My one at the moment is a Peppa Pig one, details the activities and toys we have played with, what they have eaten, sleeps, their temperment and nappies etc. Thanks in advance xx

I met with a parent last month she signed contract and paid a retainer of £50, she is waiting for her CRB to come back and has chased them up and it turns out it was only sent off last week, so it could take another 6-8 weeks to come back, should i ask her for another retainer as we thought she would be starting with me at the end of this month at the latest now it could be the end of next month?
