Re: i am a newbie
Hi everyone can usually have 6 kids under 8, 3 under 5 and 3 over 5,s, this is reduced if you have any kids of your own that fall into these areas.
Sometimes ofsted will increase your numbers or reduce them. If they are reduced it,s usually cause you dont have enough space for all the kids or because you have had an incident that have made ofsted think you are still suitable to mind But better to have less children in your care at any one time.
I have mine increased as i had someone working with me but she left so i applied to have 4 under 5 and they allowed me on a tues and wed, as the kids were all with me already so good for continuity of care but they are reluctant to do this for children not already in your care unless is a sibling of one you already have, and you have to send in how you will care for them and meet the requirements.
Your cert will state how many you can have and is up to you to contact then if you require any changes. When a child is 4 and starts fulltime school thay are clased as 5 for you ratio purposes but you still need to provide the eyfs till the term after the 5th birthday but as they wont be with you much its quite easy.
So if you had a child who is 4 then you would write to ofsted to change your numbers to allow you to take another child under 5 when yours goes to school, or a child turning 8 would mean they would no longer count in you numbers.
