Using log cabin to childmind

Post  adedwards68 on Fri Feb 05, 2010 7:33 pm

Hi Everyone
Has anyone used a garden log cabin as the setting for their childminding setting. If so what changes did you have to make, what did you do about toilets, sleeping arrangements.

Hi i think you have to be careful doing this as not sure what ofsted would say, as is not part of your home, may only be able to be used part of the time due to heating issues and toileting and stuff like that. I would use it if you already are but have your house registered as normal and say you store all your toys in there and use in summer for children who would prefer to be inside while you are in the garden that ay they are easier to watch and you can protect younger children from the sun, or you could say you use it as your messy room, then you would just need to do a risk assesment for when you are using it for messy play and they should be happy.
But you will need to think about what you would do if you have a few children and 1 needed the toilet in the house ofsted would prob want to know what you would do in various situations, but if you can cover yourself then i would use the room whenever you want, and that way your house would be tidy.
I have moved all my craft stuff into garage, cleared the whole garage out and use it for messy time,it also has a pool table in and a footie table for the my kids and i let the over 8,s use it in the hols. I did a quick risk assesment for my own benefit and as far as ofsted are concerned it is extra storage for toys and craft equipment, it is a bit easier as is an integral garage off my kitchen so easiy to watch everyone. It gets a bit cold in winter but older ones can wear a coat or we just dont use it.
Vx
